Representative Interview

What are the unique strengths
of Director Lee Byung-hee?

Q. What are the unique strengths of Director Lee Byung-hee?
People often say that I am 'stubborn' in some ways.

But that stubbornness is a heart that does not give up for the sake of the patient. Through the interview with Director Lee Byung-hee of HanStep Korean Medicine Clinic, we share the path we have walked and the path we will take in the future.

The Story

"I don't know if anyone here
has ever been to the Himalayas."

From Nepal in the east to China, India, and Pakistan in the west, the Himalayas, the roof of the world, tower above.
On the Karakoram Highway (KKH) from Pakistan to China,
In Leh, an ancient future plateau city in northern India,
At Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) in western Nepal, I have climbed the Himalayas.

In particular, when climbing Annapurna Base Camp, since I am not a professional climber, going as far as the base camp allowed for civilians was all I did, but walking up a mountain 4,130m above sea level for several days was not an easy task.

During the day, sweat flowed like rain under the scorching sun, leaving salt on my pants, and at night, I had to sleep while fighting the harsh cold that froze waterfalls. I walked up for 3 days and 2 nights like that.

While climbing for hours on an endless path that seemed impossible to climb, I was so tired, I regretted it, I got angry, and I thought a lot about giving up. However, as I held back and silently took one step at a time, after a few hours, I had crossed one or two mountain peaks, and as time passed and I looked back, I had crossed a few more... In the end, I was able to reach the base camp.

There were good views in between, and as I passed 3,500m above sea level, perennial snow had accumulated, making the whole world a snowfield.

Core Value

In the end, what got me up there
was that 'single step'

The beginning of a single step
The First Step

The first step

That very first step out the door after deciding to climb that mountain!

Determination

Determination

That one step I took again when I was hesitating whether to give up!

Persistence of a single step
Persistence

The step of persistence

That step taken tenaciously during those hard times! It was that very step.

Achievement

Achievement

Even a long journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.

For Patients

That one step that started with
'let's try to treat it' has come this far.

This path began because I felt sorry for autoimmune disease patients I encountered by chance
after becoming an oriental medical doctor and their pitiful situation where there is no alternative other than steroids.
Now, I am taking another step here to professionally treat autoimmune disease patients.

It is a pity that I cannot guarantee a 100% cure rate,
but since many people have already confirmed improvement, it is certainly not an incurable disease.
That is where I want to place my hope.

I will strive and research more to find better treatments and show better cure rates.
Instead of just giving up, patients should actively change their lives and improve their lifestyles,
taking a step toward treatment—that is the important step.

Even a long journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, and if you walk one step at a time on a path that seems like it will never end,
before you know it, you are so far away that you can't even see the starting point.
The single step we walk silently can become a new attempt and history.
I hope everyone can move forward slowly, but without stopping, one step at a time.

I will do my best.
Thank you.
