Hello. This is HanStep Korean Medicine Clinic, which has been researching and treating ulcerative colitis since 2007. This case involves complete remission of ulcerative colitis, where even the endoscopy results have become completely clean.
The patient was diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis in July 2023, starting with mucus in the stool. By March 2025, symptoms had worsened significantly, and at the time of the initial visit, the patient was in a very underweight state (153cm, 42kg). Due to side effects experienced with Western medication, we approached the treatment using only herbal medicine.
Main Symptoms at Initial Visit (May 2025)
- Bowel Movements: 2-4 times a day, accompanied by bloody and mucous stools

First, we resolved the soreness above the navel, dizziness, and digestive discomfort through digestive system prescriptions. Within 3 months, the calprotectin level normalized to 8.9 points, but since mucus in the stool remained, we added respiratory prescriptions to treat the seasonal rhinitis symptoms. Finally, through inflammatory type prescriptions to finalize the intestinal environment, the patient reached a complete state where all symptoms disappeared by January 2026.
Endoscopy Results After Treatment
In the endoscopy performed after treatment ended, the doctor noted that 'the previous ulcerative rectal inflammation has disappeared' and mentioned the possibility of natural remission; however, this is the result of systematic herbal medicine treatment. The intestinal mucosa, which was full of edema and bleeding in 2025, recovered to a very clean and normal state one year later.
